Abercus

Abercus is a privately-owned, independent consultancy specialising in the application of advanced engineering simulation, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), finite element analysis (FEA) and development of bespoke software, primarily within the energy industries.

Abercus’ team has experience across a wide range of energy applications, including technical safety, process engineering, flow assurance and subsea applications.

Abercus was founded in Aberdeen in 2010 by Dr Steve Howell and Simon Feven, because they had identified a need for better democratisation of advanced simulation through a more open approach and the use of bespoke 3 software and simulation data management (SDM) tools. This remains the goal of our business, and forms the basis of our business model – a sustainable cycle of continual improvement. We believe that more innovative approaches and better efficiency can be achieved by collaboration and sharing of knowledge through this cycle.

Abercus has a long competence in hydrogen safety, primarily through Dr Prankul Middha who joined the company in 2017. Prankul has a PhD in this area and a large number of publications and presentations in international conferences. He also has coordinated and worked within several large European and international projects.

Abercus is registered in Scotland (Company Number SC389355) at 7 Queen’s Gardens, Aberdeen, AB15 4YD, United Kingdom. Founded in 2010, Abercus is FPAL registered and operates an Abercus operates an Integrated Management System (IMS) which ensures that all work is undertaken in accordance with ISO 9001 and the Engineering Simulation Quality Management Standard (ESQMS) by NAFEMS, the international association for the engineering modelling, analysis and simulation community. Abercus is an active member of the following industry groups (in addition to now SHFCA):

• ERCOFTAC SIG 46 (oil, gas and petroleum special interest group)

• FABIG (fire and blast investigation group).
