HIE works to exploit the critical, but time-limited opportunity to develop a world leading industry which could offer the area significant long term and sustainable economic and social benefits. It believes that the Highlands and Islands will play a crucial role in helping to meet the Government‟s targets for new renewable generation. Through proactive action the Network will drive forward initiatives to:

• secure sustainable, high value employment in manufacturing, research, demonstration and the supply chain;

• support meaningful income generation from community-owned projects, and

• support ongoing fossil generation replacement and CO2 reductions.

The Network also fully supports wider initiatives to increase energy efficiency as a key contributor to achieving carbon emission reductions and will ensure ongoing action is taken to encourage efficiency awareness within communities, the business sector and the Network‟s own properties.
